John W. Traphagan, Ph.D.

I am Professor of Religious Studies and faculty affiliate of the Population Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin. I hold a Ph.D. in social anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh, an MAR in religion and ethics from Yale University, and a BA in political science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I also spent two years as a National Institute on Aging postdoctoral fellow at the Population Studies Center of the University of Michigan.

In addition to my work at the University of Texas at Austin, I am a regular contributor to The Diplomat, Secretary General of the Japan Anthropology Workshop, and consult for government and industry on Japanese culture.  I also play jazz drums professionally in the Austin area.

Thank you for checking out my website.
